CLQ 3130 C3/CS: The Meanings of Mt. Tamalpais

This course focuses on the rich history, changing values/meanings, and cultural/social significance of Mt. Tam from its formation to the present day. Mt. Tam has been approached and valued in diverse ways from prehistory to the present day, geologically, culturally, and environmentally. These changing perceptions demonstrate that the many 'meanings' that Mt. Tam has had (and continues to have) are indicative of significant changes in cultural/social values. Coursework as well an experiential intimacy through field trips will enhance students' ability to develop a critical connection to place, not only to Mt. Tamalpais but also to other natural environments. Co-requisite CLQ 3131.
