CLQ 3021 HO/PY: Psychology of Place

This course uses materials from environmental psychology, ecopsychology, and conservation psychology to explore the individual's relationship to place. Three central questions are explored: How does the physical environment impact us? What is my relationship to the natural landscape and all that it potentially offers> How do I participate in protecting place> Over the last thirty years psychology has begun to investigate the impact of the natural landscape on the individual and vice versa. Readings and research in the relatively new are of study will be introduced as well as exploring some classic text form the past that shed light on these questions. Via readings and discussion, experiential exercises, wilderness immersion, and filed research students will increase their knowledge of their local landscapes and will deepen their personal understanding of what place means.
