OMED 8427 Neonatology Elective Clerkship

This four-week elective clerkship is designed to provide experiential learning in the field of neonatology. To accomplish this, learners will participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team caring for neonates requiring neonatal intensive care services. Through broad exposure to commonly encountered cases in neonatology including but not limited to prematurity, genetic disorders, and congenital malformations, students will become familiar with delivery room management, airway control, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic and electrolyte monitoring, nutritional support, pharmacology, perinatal consultation, and varied technical procedures. The student will also gain experience in communicating with parents of ill neonates.
