CLQ 3230 C13/EN: Women's Mythmaking
The myths of Ancient Greece recur throughout our literature because poets, writers, and artists continue to discover new meanings in archetypes; they rejuvenate our cultural images and simultaneously redefine who we are as individuals (our personal and spiritual quests) and how we live within a community. In this course we will read modern stories and poems that retell Greek myths from new and unexpected points of view. Alongside our readings we will discuss writings about mythology and culture by Carl Karenyi, Alicia Ostriker, and others, with a particular focus on gender and identity. Co-requisite
