EDUC 3368 Social Emotional Learning and Classroom Management

In Social Emotional Learning and Classroom Management, teacher candidates will explore how to build classroom communities, support students’ social and emotional development, and develop a host of classroom management strategies. Grounded in relevant theory and research, teacher candidates will learn how to create classrooms that are supportive of students of diverse backgrounds and needs. This professional development course explores how to support students’ development of social-emotional learning (SEL) skills and dispositions. This course also examines practices in organizing time, materials, and classroom space; strategies for building positive relationships with students; and strategies for managing and motivating individual, small, and large groups of students during instruction, activities, and transitions. The course probes research-based classroom management models that encourage student collaboration, cooperation, positive social interaction, and conflict resolution skills.
