EDUC 3314 Disciplinary Literacy

Disciplinary Literacy builds a foundation in literacy for content areas: the listening, speaking, reading, and writing practices that support learning the content of a discipline. Students will learn strategies for teaching disciplinary literacy appropriate to their content areas. This course focuses on supporting English learners to attain academic English proficiency across all content areas. Further, the course introduces students to dyslexia and how to support learners with dyslexia across the content subjects. Students will have opportunities to deepen their disciplinary knowledge while developing their understanding of pedagogy. It is strongly recommended that students complete a minimum of 12 credit hours in their discipline before enrolling in this course.
