Eligibility for Admission
Persons who may be eligible to matriculate
in any graduate program must:

Hold a Bachelors degree or higher, from a
regionally accredited institution or from a non-regionally
accredited institution with comparable curriculum and standards to those of
Manhattanville College School of Education, as determined by Manhattanville, and
present a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 (A=4.) In very limited cases, students with a
minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA below 3.00 may be accepted provisionally,
following NY State law, generally after a period of wait-listing. A GPA may be calculated using Manhattanville
College policy as specified in the College Catalog. Applicants who are wait-listed will be
notified periodically on a rolling basis.
Candidates
who are rejected may reapply for admission to begin no less than one calendar
year after the semester in which they were rejected. For re-application within less than 3 years,
they must submit one new reference, a new resume, and a new essay.

Submit an application fee and completed
application form including a 2-3 page typewritten essay stating their
philosophy of education. Incomplete
applications will remain open for one year from the date of application.

Submit official transcripts for ALL previous
college coursework.

Submit two strong professional recommendations.

Complete the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or equivalent, for those seeking NYS teacher or
leader certification, professional licensing, or the doctoral degree. Students may apply, be provisionally accepted
and may begin a program if this requirement is in process (i.e. an exam is
scheduled.)

Submit proof of certification, for admission to
programs in Special Education, Literacy, or Bilingual Education. Students may begin these programs
provisionally when not yet certified, but will not be allowed to graduate until
they are certified.

Complete a Music audition and exam, for
admission to programs in Music Education

Complete the Oral Proficiency Interview of the
American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages with a score of “Advanced-Low”
or above, for admission into Foreign Language Education.

International students must demonstrate English
language proficiency by achieving a score of 110 on the TOEFL IBT or a score of
8 on the IELTS or an equivalent exam result.
International credentials will be evaluated by Manhattanville School of
Education. A certified translation and external
evaluation of international credentials must be submitted upon request.
Education Leadership Admissions
For
entrance into Education Leadership
programs, requirements include all of the above as relevant and additionally:

At least three years of successful experience in
education or other appropriate setting after completing the Bachelor’s degree
are strongly preferred.

A Masters degree or higher from a regionally
accredited institution or from a non-regionally
accredited institution with comparable curriculum and standards to those of
Manhattanville College School of Education, as determined by Manhattanville.

A record of leadership as a teacher, leader,
and/or manager. Two years of
administrative experience are strongly preferred
-
A letter of nomination focusing on the
applicant’s commitment, determination, scholarly writing skills and
communication skills, as well as research experience and potential.

A professional and/or research-based writing
sample.
NOTES
1.
Holders of F- or J-class visas are not eligible for
admission into programs at off-campus locations. F-1 and other visa holders may earn Masters
degrees and are potentially eligible for NY State Initial certification. Professional certification is available only
to permanent residents and U.S. citizens. International students must consult
the Office of International Students and Scholars.
2. All candidates for all degrees or advanced
certificate programs must take at least one full 3-credit in-person course
on-campus
