SOWO 40473 Homelessness in the US

Prerequisites: SOWO 10833 or by instructor permit, This course comprehensively explores the social problem of homelessness in the United States. It examines how homelessness in the United States has changed over time, risk factors for homelessness, and individual, familial, and societal consequences of unresolved homelessness. The course will also evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of social policies and practice interventions meant to address homelessness. The course will provide an immersive experience involving meetings with key stakeholders and subject experts as well as visits to local homeless assistance agencies. The class will also visit different communities in Texas to understand how manifestations of and responses to homelessness differ between communities.
