HLTH 100: Variable Topics in Health (1-3)
In this course, students have the opportunity to investigate in depth an aspect of health which is not usually covered in the regular health courses.
HLTH 101: Introduction to Health Occupations (1)
The course will provide students an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a variety of healthcare professions, educational opportunities and licensing requirements, employment trends for health-related careers. Students will gain hands-on experiences in a variety of health occupations to gain an understanding of necessary skills and duties of the professions and will apply concepts learned to interdisciplinary scenarios.
HLTH 103: Introduction to Phlebotomy & Laboratory Procedures (3)
This course teaches basic concepts in the area of medical laboratory safety, specimen collection (venipuncture and capillary), specimen processing, and laboratory mathematics and lab equipment. The student will obtain clinical experience in phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) collections, and specimen processing at an area medical facility.
Corequisite: HLTH 103L.

Laboratory component to HLTH 103.

HLTH 114: Emergency Medical Technician (4)
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Educational requirements: successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course.
HLTH 163: Human Diseases (3)
A comprehensive study of disease processes (causes, symptoms, and treatments), organized by body systems.
Prerequisite: BI 162. Corequisite: BI 115 or BI 213+BL 211.
