Evaluation of Transfer Credit
As part of the admissions process, the Office of the Registrar conducts a transfer of credit evaluation. All applicants to the University are required to provide an official transcript from each of the institutions they have attended, including their high school. Documents should be sent directly from the registrar at the awarding institution to the registrar at WTU.
Students with foreign credentials are further required to provide a translation of the transcript (if relevant) and a Course by Course Credential Evaluation prepared by an approved agency. Credential evaluations will only be accepted from agencies that are members of one of the following associations:
- Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE)
- National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)
Based on the documentation provided, the registrar identifies credits that are transferrable. The transfer of courses into the major will be at the discretion of the registrar in consultation with the Dean and/or the Chief Academic Officer.
Currently, WTU only transfers credit from courses in which a student has a passing grade.
Alternative Ways to Earn Credit
Up to 90 combined credits may be applied toward a WTU program via:
- AP - Advanced Placement
- CLEP - College Level Examination Program
- IB - International Baccalaureate
The University’s transfer credit evaluation will be made available to - and signed by - a prospective student during the admissions process.
Acceptance of the evaluation will further be signed by an appropriate academic officer prior to the commencement of the program.
Transfer of Associate Degrees
WTU accepts associate degrees that meet the requirements of the Washington Direct Transfer Curricula. These degrees are designed specifically to transfer and meet all the general education requirements. All credits will transfer to Washington Technology University and students are guaranteed junior level standing.
Transfer of Associate of Arts Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed as a transfer degree into a four-year baccalaureate program. The University provides full transfer of all coursework successfully completed as part of an Associate of Arts degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution. While students with associate degrees typically transfer 90 quarter hours - approximately the first two years of the baccalaureate educational experience – students can transfer in up to 105 credit hours as part of the completed associate of arts degree. Transfer of additional lower-division credit beyond the associate degree is restricted. Transfer students must meet the University's minimum residency programmatic and graduation requirements. For students with multiple associate degrees, the University will use the first degree received from a regionally-accredited institution as the basis for transfer credit evaluation.
Washington Technology University accepts Associate degrees that meet the requirements of the Washington Direct Transfer Curricula. These degrees are designed specifically to transfer and meet all the general education requirements; all credits will transfer to Washington Technology University and students are guaranteed junior level standing.
Transfer of Other Associate Degrees
The University provides full transfer credit for specialized associate degrees (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Fine Arts, etc.) successfully completed at regionally or nationally accredited institutions. If completion of a required general education program is documented on the official transcript, the transfer student will have satisfied the University's general education requirement. Transfer without a degree is evaluated on a course-by-course basis subject to the University's policies regarding lower-division programs.
Transferability of Credits from WTU
The transferability of credits earned at Washington Technology University is at the discretion of the receiving college, university, or other educational institution. Students considering transferring to any institution should not assume that credits earned in any program of study at Washington Technology University will be accepted by the receiving institution. Similarly, the ability of a degree, certificate, diploma, or other academic credential earned at Washington Technology University to satisfy an admission requirement of another institution is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Accreditation does not guarantee credentials or credits earned at Washington Technology University will be accepted by or transferred to another institution. To minimize the risk of having to repeat coursework, students should contact the receiving institution in advance for evaluation and determination of transferability of credits and/or acceptability of degrees, diplomas, or certificates earned.
