Program Description:
This program will prepare students for a career in the field of healthcare sciences. Students will receive a strong foundation in science and healthcare related concepts that are integral for a successful career in today's challenging health care settings. Additionally, students will obtain a broad knowledge base from SUNY's General Education requirements and will be prepared to transfer seamlessly to pursue a bachelor's degree in their chosen field.
The program will provide foundational coursework for students wishing to pursue careers in healthcare, such as public health,physical therapy, occupational therapy, physicians assistant, healthcare informatics specialist, emergency services management, healthcare administration, community health, nutrition/dietary management, health education specialist, radiology technology, surgical technology and/or biotechnology.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Effectively communicate accurate healthcare information, both written and spoken
- Define the roles and differentiate the scopes of practice of various healthcare professions
- Demonstrate an understanding and application of medical terminology in various simulated healthcare settings
- Illustrate the specific need for ethical practice in all healthcare professions
- Use critical thinking skills to analyze information related to healthcare
- Demonstrate and apply a basic understanding of healthcare information systems
- Evaluate healthcare options in the community related to quality of life, disease, treatment, and wellness
- Apply knowledge of first aid and basic life support skills to address life threatening situations in a simulated setting
