FYS 73 The Canine Mind

For over 40,000 years, the relationship between canines and humans has defined both species' evolutionary history. In this course, we will explore the origins of dogs' unique intelligence and the canine-human bond through an introduction to domestication theory and a survey of cutting edge research concerning how dogs think and reason about the social world. In addition to a primary emphasis on interpreting and communicating scientific findings, this course will also explore depictions of canine intelligence in mainstream media including literature and film.

Open only to first-year frosh.
