FYS 61 Rescued Books Club: Selections from the New York Review of Books Classics Series
This course is for students interested in exploring the New York Review of Books Classics series, an imprint dedicated to reviving literary works that have fallen out of print and into relative obscurity. In studying these distinctive works of mostly fiction, students will develop their close reading skills, engage with literary scholarship, and write their own original, thesis-driven essays while strengthening and sharpening both their analytical prowess and prose style. Authors we will read may include Barbara Pym, Honore de Balzac, Marina Tsvetaeva, Jean Stafford, Elizabeth Taylor (English author), Natsume Soseki, Sylvia Townsend Warner, and Barbara Comyns, among others.
Not open to students who enrolled in FYS 12 in Fall 2026.
Open only to first-year frosh.
