EDUC 351 Remedial Reading Practicum

This course requires teacher candidates to apply research-based assessment, diagnostic, differentiated and corrective reading strategies studied in EDUC 350 in a field-based experience. Initial weekly faculty guidance prepares teacher candidates for field experience where they will complete and analyze assessments, and plan and implement research-based interventions in reading instruction for a student assigned by the in-school mentor teacher. Pre and post lesson observation conferences will be conducted by faculty and/or mentor teachers with teacher candidates throughout the field experience. Lesson planning, instruction, reflective journaling and a case study analysis paper contribute to the skill development of teacher candidates in the specific area of instructional and corrective reading intervention. This course must be taken for 2 SH for the North Dakota Reading Credential. Special Education majors may choose the 1 SH option.
