EDUC 318 Reading in the Elementary School

An introductory course in the teaching of developmental reading at the elementary level. The course includes directed study and reflective research in reading instruction theory and a field-based experience. A balanced approach to literacy is used and includes a variety of instructional strategies with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These five areas of reading instruction provide the foundation for teaching reading witch students will apply in actual settings. Students will  create lesson plans and complete online research for assignments. This course is required for Secondary/Special Education double majors.
