Educational Studies Major
The Educational Studies major recognizes the work of those who pursue teacher certification and creates a more flexible structure to accommodate all who invest substantial intellectual energy into the study of Education policy and practice. The Educational Studies major is constructed to encompass the three Teacher Certification Program tracks (Elementary, Secondary, or Music Education), which are supported through advising, as well as to accommodate students who opt out of the student teaching semester and/or pursue an alternative capstone experience.
Because the external entities that govern credentialing require that all certification candidates major in content areas other than Education, Educational Studies at Connecticut College often functions as a double major for students.
Requirements to fulfill the Educational Studies major
Students completing the Educational Studies major must take nine courses, or seven courses and eight credits of student teaching:
