Master of Science in Nutrition
The Master of Science in Nutrition degree is a 30-credit-hour program. This program provides students with knowledge of current nutrition research, evidence-based nutrition practices, and advances the training and skills necessary to apply that knowledge in their professional careers. All students take foundation courses in macronutrients, micronutrients, nutrition research, and statistics. This program fulfills the current academic requirement of obtaining a master's degree to be eligible to take the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist exam. Students may also complete the ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and/or Dietetic Internship while working on the Master of Science in Nutrition degree. Graduates of the program will be prepared to work in clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and food service management settings as leaders in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

Students must meet adequate undergraduate background requirements, including:
Biochemistry may be taken during the first year of the program. However, this will increase the time to program completion.
Master of Science in Nutrition Degree Plan
Students complete 11 credit hours of foundation requirements, 4 to 6 credit hours of synthesis/research (Capstone Project or Thesis), and electives (minimum 9 hours in nutrition) for a minimum of 30 credit hours.

Nine (9) hours of nutrition graduate electives are required.
Electives
The student must choose graduate elective courses to meet the 30 credit hour program minimum. They do not have to be nutrition graduate courses.
Synthesis/Research Capstone Option
Students choosing the Capstone option take the Capstone Master's Project across a minimum of 2 semesters for a total of 4 to 6 credit hours.
Synthesis/Research Thesis Option
Students choosing the Thesis option take 3 credit hours of NUTR 63TP Thesis Proposal and 3 to 6 credit hours of NUTR 6XTR Thesis Research. Continuous enrollment at UIW is required until completion of Thesis.
Comprehensive Understanding Requirement
Completion of the Master of Science in Nutrition degree program requires the student to pass a comprehensive examination. The comprehensive exam includes both written and oral components and should be taken during the student’s last year of study.
