EDUC 2316 Survey of Special Education in Secondary Settings

Survey of Special Education in Secondary Settings provides an overview of issues, trends, and instructional considerations related to special education in middle and high school contexts. Throughout the course, students will learn about the philosophical, historical, and legal foundations of special education; current trends and issues related to special education; characteristics and needs of students with disabilities; collaboration with the family, school, and community personnel, and instructional strategies addressing high-incidence areas of special education (learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, gifted and talented). The course focuses on the preparation of general education teachers to meet the needs of students in inclusive classrooms. This course is the prerequisite for the optional special education minor coursework.
