Students who enter the Music program in any of the concentrations, minor or general, are exposed from the beginning to a wide spectrum of practical, creative, aesthetic and technical experiences typical of the different periods, currents and musical styles, offering all the opportunities and conditions required for the full development of musical talent. The knowledge acquired, as well as their active and demanding participation in the activities of the Department (orchestra, jazz, early music, chamber ensembles, choirs, contemporary chamber music, Colombian music, electroacoustic music, audio practices, live sound, recording projects, vocal practice, composition, research, music for film and media, individual instrument practice) will allow them to consolidate their interests within the many options existing in the profession as well as explore and strengthen their career within the chosen field. Throughout their training, students will acquire the necessary tools for the construction of autonomous criteria, which will help form an objective and ethical vision in decision-making, in addition to a high level of comprehensive musical performance that will strengthen their qualities to adapt to changing circumstances.
Applicant Profile
Applicants to the undergraduate program in Music at the Universidad de los Andes are interested in learning and putting into practice different ways of making music and working with music today .
This development occurs in dialogue with multiple theoretical, historical, geographical and social contexts , from different ways of working with music such as performance, composition, production, education, research, technological development or interdisciplinary areas, all within the framework of the development of critical thinking.
Applicants are people interested in accessing a program that allows them to develop basic musical skills, applied to a wide range of activities , with the possibility of profiling themselves according to their particular interests in different areas of work, some more specialized than others.
For some areas of work, training and previous experience are required, for others, not .
Objectives
Majors in Music Production and Audio Production
It is oriented towards the training of musicians who wish to work as professionals in the processes that involve music production and audio manipulation and processing, with the ability to adapt to the continuous technological changes in the industry. It allows students to take on various fields of action, such as recording, stereo and immersive mixing, record music production, new audio technologies, acoustics, event production and music business. The differential of the concentrations in music production and audio production offered by the Universidad de los Andes is that our students are musicians who master technical aspects of production and conceptualize from the artistic and executive, which allows them to interact at the same level with all music professionals.
Concentration on singing
The concentration in singing trains lyrical and popular singers. It provides students with solid musical, technical and humanistic tools that, through the development of their musical and personal skills, enable them to practice their profession with the quality required nationally and internationally. The program follows a structure of individual and group classes in which healthy vocal production, diction, acting techniques and stage management, stylistic knowledge of the repertoire and interpretation of the musical genres that best fit the interests and individual abilities of each student are developed. A musician with a concentration in singing can perform as a singer in different musical productions, groups or project themselves as a soloist.
Main concentration on instrument
Concentration designed for the performance of an instrumental musician in today's world. This concentration will allow you to:
- Work in detail on styles and works that underpin the instrumental musical tradition of the West
- Perform works from the Latin American repertoire, including Colombian composers
- Familiarize yourself with the dynamics of playing in front of an audience
- Prepare and play two full recitals: one towards the middle of the degree, and one towards the end
- Develop collaborative skills for your future performance as a professional musician
- Be able to act as a session musician, collaborative musician and/or soloist
- Familiarize yourself with the repertoire and teaching methods of your instrument
Main concentration Piano
Concentration designed for the performance of a pianist musician in today's world. This concentration will allow you to:
- Trabajar en detalle estilos y obras pianísticas que fundamentan la tradición musical instrumental de Occidente
- Interpretar obras del repertorio latinoamericano, que incluye los compositores colombianos
- Familiarizarse con las dinámicas de tocar frente a público
- Preparar y tocar dos recitales completos: uno hacia la mitad de la carrera, y otro hacia el final
- Desarrollar habilidades colaborativas para su futuro desempeño como pianista profesional
- Estar en capacidad de actuar como pianista colaborativo, solista o músico de sesión
- Familiarizarse con el repertorio y métodos de enseñanza de su instrumento
Concentración en interpretación popular
El candidato a título en Interpretación popular debe manejar los estilos musicales más representativos de los siglos XX y XXI en el ámbito popular y folclórico. Está en condiciones de crear repertorio original y realizar arreglos para los principales formatos instrumentales de estas músicas y puede hacer transcripciones y versiones de repertorio existente o inédito en cualquiera de estos géneros.
El egresado de Interpretación popular puede desempeñarse en agrupaciones musicales como orquestas, bandas y también proyectarse como solista. Tiene la capacidad de participar en grabaciones y proyectos audiovisuales como director, arreglista e intérprete de diversos estilos comerciales y populares.
Concentraciones principales en Composición
El compositor domina los aspectos técnicos y estéticos de la composición musical desde una visión panorámica de los formatos y lenguajes contemporáneos experimentales en la música académica. Tendrá la posibilidad de emplear con suficiencia técnicas creativas e investigativas en medios instrumentales, electrónicos, mixtos, para la imagen, entre otras posibilidades en el campo de la composición musical actual. El compositor estudiará el repertorio universal con herramientas de análisis adecuadas, siendo consciente de la posición de su proceso creativo en el marco de la música actual. Es así como el estudiante de composición progresivamente desarrolla las habilidades necesarias para plantear proyectos creativos basados en la investigación y experimentación, con una visión crítica y amplia acerca de sus planteamientos creativos.
Tiene la posibilidad de navegar libremente entre los medios y herramientas conceptuales y tecnológicas de una forma híbrida y flexible. Esto le permite tener la posibilidad de explorar diferentes aproximaciones a la formulación de acercamientos a las problemáticas actuales en la composición musical contemporánea. El estudiante de composición tendrá un amplio conocimiento de las herramientas propias de la composición tanto desde una mirada tradicional a la vanguardista. Es así como el estudiante de composición tiene los conocimientos necesarios en los campos de la teoría, instrumentación, orquestación, morfología, pasando a aquellos aplicados en la tecnología característicos de la electrónica musical experimental como el diseño sonoro, creación de paisaje sonoro, procesamientos de señal, síntesis sonora, entre otros. Esto permite una práctica compositiva amplia, viéndose alimentada por un acercamiento transversal en la aplicación de las herramientas disponibles en el campo de la composición.
- Compositor electroacústico
El compositor electroacústico tiene un dominio de las técnicas y lenguajes experimentales contemporáneos gracias a la aplicación de la tecnología a las problemáticas de la composición musical actual. Por medio del manejo de estas herramientas, el estudiante desarrolla una concepción tímbrica y espacial del diseño de la textura compositiva. Es de esta forma que el compositor electroacústico no solamente diseña las particularidades morfológicas del sonido, sino que plantea posibles naturalezas y comportamientos del espacio acústico. El compositor electroacústico, gracias a la infraestructura propia de BLAST – Bogotá Los Andes Sound Theater – está en capacidad de diseñar y dirigir los montajes tecnológicos según los requerimientos técnicos para la realización de sus obras tanto en formatos estándar como no tradicionales.
El compositor instrumental tiene un dominio de las técnicas y y lenguajes propias de la música para formatos tanto instrumentales como vocales en el marco de la música contemporánea. Desde el conocimiento de las herramientas propias de la música como lo son la instrumentación y orquestación, así como el estudio de la teoría, el análisis de repertorio y la morfología, entre otros, el estudiante de esta concentración estará en capacidad de crear obras para formatos y combinaciónes instrumentales y vocales, coherentes con sus características idiomáticas. El compositor instrumental entiende que la última instancia creativa de la obra sucede en su interpretación y la incorpora dentro de su proceso de aprendizaje.
The popular music composer has a broad knowledge of the contemporary popular and/or commercial music scene. Students in this concentration feed their creative process by identifying current market trends, becoming familiar with the techniques and languages of a wide variety of current musical styles. The popular composer [re]cognizes musical expressions from their cultural tradition, and proposes new aesthetic and stylistic possibilities.
- Composer for film and media
The skills specific to composition applied to film and audiovisual media cover both musical aspects and knowledge of language and industry. Students in this concentration develop the ability to work in a team as an essential element of their professional practice, are familiar with cinematic languages and the creative possibilities of music in various narrative and non-narrative contexts, master basic technical aspects of the trade such as: handling music production software, instrumental and digital orchestration and sound design, and ultimately develop, through practical experience, the sensitivity that allows them to interpret and transmit emotions through music.

Study Plan
The degree is made up of two cycles.
The Basic Training cycle will allow you to:
• Learn to listen to music.
• Learn to read music.
• Structure musical thought.
In the Vocational Training cycle, the necessary skills are acquired to:
• Compose musical works for instrumental, electroacoustic or mixed media.
• Belong to musical groups such as orchestras, bands or chamber groups.
• Project themselves as soloists.
• Dedicate themselves to music research.
• Teach in their specialty.
• Work in a professional recording studio.
• Continue studying in postgraduate programs.
• Within the possibility of a double program offered by the University in Music, those interested can also do double emphasis between the options mentioned.
Complementary training:
Musical training is complemented by activities that the student can develop in areas such as early music, jazz, blues, rock or Colombian music. These complementary activities are developed under the guidance of specialized teachers.

Program-Model
Students must confirm that they have completed the credits required for each program and the General Student Regulations. One academic credit is equivalent to 48 hours of academic work in the semester. Full enrollment for each semester allows for enrollment of up to 20.5 credits.
