Data Science
Introduction & Overview
Data scientists combine computer science, statistical modeling, analytics, data visualization, and a deep understanding of their organization’s concerns to transform a vast amount of data into actionable insights—which can have a profound impact on businesses and the communities they serve. Data scientists work in every field: medicine, health care, environmental research, energy production, information security, finance, marketing —all with a similar goal of bringing understanding to an increasingly more complex world.
Manhattanville’s Data Science program will teach you the range of skills that are involved in modern data science—computer programming for data gathering, cleaning, and transformation; mathematics and statistics for foundational data analysis; machine learning for developing prediction models; and communication skills for presenting your work to others. You’ll work with tabular data from finance, the social sciences, and the natural sciences, as well as image data from medicine and text data from social media. You will be prepared to work as Data Scientists or Data Analysts in businesses, research institutions, or public policy organizations, or to go on to graduate work in Data Science.
