ROSE INSTITUTE for LEARNING and LITERACY
The Rose Institute for Learning and Literacy prepares teachers to use a phonics-based multisensory structured approach to literacy instruction based on the work of Samuel T. Orton. Students take two 3-credit methodology courses and one 7-credit year-long practicum. Institute coursework can provide preparation for recognition by the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Coursework from the Rose Institute can be applied towards a Master’s degree in Literacy or Literacy and Special Education. Students completing all 13 credits will earn a Certificate of Advanced Study, Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction. Courses can also be taken for professional development credit.
The Institute courses or programs in themselves do not lead to NYS teacher certification.
