MATH 111 College Algebra

Few subjects inspire as much intimidation as math. According to a 2012 New York Times article, many students drop out of college due to freshman math courses, hindering them from moving forward in their chosen field. However, what many people don’t realize is that algebra already pops up in everyday life, whether when applying for a loan, creating a household budget, comparing prices at the grocery store, understanding deductions in your paycheck, or determining the correct dosage for over-the-counter medication. Even though these are basic applications of algebra, the more challenging content is necessary for further study of mathematics and many careers with nice financial benefits.

This course breaks down otherwise intimidating math terms and equations, empowering you to use algebra to solve problems in your life and career. You’ll explore topics such as functions, linear equations, graphing, systems of linear equations, exponents, polynomials, rational expressions, radical expressions, and quadratic equations. By the end of the course, you’ll not only be able to apply algebra in real-life scenarios but also have critical and logical thinking skills, along with the knowledge to further your study of mathematics and be on your way to a lucrative career!
