Societal norms. Deviance. Ethnocentricity. Politics. Crime. Conformity. Social class. Sexuality. Urbanization. Sociology is the study of all these elements of society, and moreover is the study of how you shape and are shaped by them. In this course, you’ll learn to recognize how your individual life, relationships, and group memberships reflect the structure, patterns, and values of the larger society in which you live. You’ll study the structure and function of societal groups; the causes of social inequality and its impact on society; the social construction of interpersonal relationships; and the roots of social change. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to apply this information to your own life and influence the social world around you in new and practical ways.
