Tutoring
Tutoring
Free tutoring services are located at Danvers and Lynn Campuses and online. Individual and small group tutoring sessions are provided by tutors in subjects including math, business, science, health professions, composition, English as a Second Language, and most other academic courses and skill areas. Day, evening, and some weekend hours are advertised each semester. Students may make appointments, drop in to check availability, or use the areas for quiet study. Both credit and non-credit students are invited to use tutoring services.
Tutoring centers are equipped with supplementary texts, computers, and reference books. Online (virtual) tutoring is available through videoconference. All peer tutors train via our rigorous program that is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC).
Peer Mentoring & Academic Coaching
North Shore Community College offers Peer Mentoring and Academic Coaching on the Lynn and Danvers campuses and online. These peer‑based services connect students with trained NSCC peer leaders in a students‑supporting‑students model designed to strengthen confidence, skills, and persistence.
Peer Mentoring pairs students with peer mentors who “show the way” by sharing personal experiences and helping students build confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging within the college community.
Academic Coaching provides individualized support to help students develop academic success plans, strengthen time management and study strategies, improve organization and goal‑setting, and better navigate the expectations and opportunities of college.
The program also supports students on academic probation and suspension through professional success coaches. Peer mentors and peer coaches work collaboratively with students to identify challenges, develop action steps, and make measurable progress toward their goals.
Appointments may be scheduled through Navigate or by visiting the Lynn or Danvers Tutoring centers. Students may also email coaching@northshore.edu for assistance.
All peer staff are trained through the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Peer Educator Training Program.
