The course includes directed study and reflective research in reading instruction theory and a field based experience. A balanced approach to literacy is used and includes a variety of instructional strategies with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These five areas of reading instruction provide the foundation for teaching reading which students will apply in actual settings. Students will use Live Text format for creating lesson plans and complete online research for assignments. Pre-requisites: Admission to Teacher Education and EC 313.
