Neuroscience

Introduction & Overview

Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field that correlates the biological and physiological processes of brain function with behavior (e.g.- synaptic functioning and its effect on drug addiction). Students that study neuroscience are left with an understanding of these biochemical, physiological, and psychological choices that brain behavior and functioning.

The B.S. Neuroscience at Manhattanville College is intended to provide a strong foundation for students planning on dedicating themselves to benchwork/ fieldwork and/ or graduate studies within the biological or biospsychological sciences post-graduation. This includes pursuing a career paths as a health professional (M.D./ D.O./ D.V.M./ D.D.S.) or a scientist (M.S., Ph.D.).

The B.A. Neuroscience is ideal for students that would like to double major, are transfer students, or are not interested in pursuing a health professions career path that requires all of the typical pre-health courses.

To prepare students for their career paths, the degree offers coursework such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Human Memory, Molecular Neurobiology, Genetics, Statistics, and Cognitive Psychology, among others.

In addition to coursework, the Major will provide students access to several discipline specific teaching laboratories on campus (e.g.- anatomy, chemistry, general biology, research), as well as access to a robust research program and experiential learning opportunities (internships, research, etc.).

The program also will provide a variety of internship opportunities, and Tri-Beta Honor Society events that may be explored by our students.

Together, these programs will prepare students to become global leaders within the field of neuroscience; which is aligned with the mission statement of the college.
