Placement in Academic Transfer Courses

First time students who are registering for an academic transfer course must comply with the following:

All Courses Except Mathematics

Students may register for any college-level transfer course (except Mathematics or courses with individual pre-requisites), if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • ACT composite score of 23 or higher, with a minimum of 19 in English and/or
  • Combined SAT score of 1070 or higher, with a minimum of 500 in English and/or
  • ACT composite score of 18 or 19 and proof of graduation in top half of high school class, or combined SAT score of 810-910 and proof of graduation in top half of high school class, (TSI Assessment still required)
  • TAKS English Language Arts score of 2200 or higher WITH a score of 3 or higher in the essay.
  • Credit in Reading 0376 AND English 0376
  • A TSI score of 351 or higher on Reading TSI and 363 or higher on Writing TSI with an essay score of 4. An essay score of 5 deems a student TSI complete in Writing, regardless of score on objective portion of exam.
  • For all other courses - Placement will be determined according to the course requirements specified in Advisor’s Handbook "Basic Skills Prerequisites" chart.

Mathematics Courses

Students who meet any of the following criteria are not required to take the LCC placement test in Mathematics:

  • ACT Composite score of 23 or higher and Math score of 19 or higher, or
  • SAT Composite score of 1070 or higher and Math score of 500 or higher, or
  • TAKS Mathematics score of 2200 or higher.
  • Credit in MATH 0376
  • A TSI score of 350 or higher

Students who are in the last developmental courses of English, Reading, and Math (ENGL 0376, READ 0376, and MATH 0376) are allowed to register for college level courses during our early registration period for the next semester or session. However, if the student does not pass or complete the last developmental course in English, Reading, and Math during the semester or session, the student will be automatically dropped from the college level course or courses of the next semester or session.
