CARP2150 Advanced Roof Framing
This advanced course builds upon foundational rafter framing skills and focuses on complex roof systems, compound angles, and precision layout methods used in custom and architectural framing. Students will interpret detailed roof framing plans that include complex roofs, irregular pitches, and dormer integration. Through a hands-on project, students will calculate, lay out, cut, and install advanced rafter assemblies. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, code compliance, structural integrity, and accuracy in layout and installation.

Learning Outcomes
The following outcomes will be addressed in the course:
Analyze complex roof framing plans to identify intersecting rooflines, irregular pitches, and compound angles
Calculate dimensions and bevel cuts for advanced roof components such as irregular hips and respective jack rafters
Develop compound roof framing layouts using both traditional and digital methods
Construct a roof system that includes a multipitch hip, gable dormer and half cone
Evaluate completed roof systems for accuracy, ensuring alignment with construction drawings and specifications

Course Scheduling
The scheduled hours of instruction include sixteen hours for each lecture credit, thirty-two hours for each lab credit, and forty hours for each credit of supervised occupational experience (SOE). Lecture credit may include formal or impromptu lectures, demonstrations, or discussions with the entire class or with small groups or individuals. Refer to the Course Credits section of this course outline for the credit breakdown.
