Program Overview

Mission:

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology — Electrical Engineering Technology Concentration prepares students for employment in electrical and electronics engineering technology through applied instruction, laboratory experience, and an industry-aligned curriculum.

Description:

This concentration prepares graduates for technical positions in electrical, digital, computer, and microprocessor systems. The program provides a foundation in circuit analysis, electronics, digital systems, power systems, programmable logic controllers, microprocessors, and control systems.

2+2 Degree Completion Pathway: Students enter the program with an associate degree or transferable lower-division coursework and complete 60 upper-division credits to earn the Bachelor of Science degree.

Program Delivery: This program is delivered primarily online (approximately 92%). Three required courses—EET1141C, ETP4240L, and EET4732L—include mandatory in-person laboratory components. Students residing outside the college's service area should contact the academic department before enrolling to discuss available options for completing the required laboratory experiences.

Educational Objectives

  1. Career: Graduates will use their broad understanding of the key principles and practices of engineering technology, the written and oral communications skills, and the ability to work with others to apply these skills and knowledge to the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems.
  2. Skills: Graduates will contribute to their profession using the mathematical and scientific concepts that underline engineering technology applications, will apply this understanding, and acquire new skills and knowledge necessary to analyze technology problems and develop suitable solutions.
  3. Professionalism and Ethics: Graduates will demonstrate ethical behavior in their field and will be involved members of their local and global communities acting as responsible technical professionals.
  4. Life-Long Learning: Graduates will be active contributors to their employer and their profession with a strong commitment to continuous individual and organizational improvement, effective communication, teamwork, quality, timeliness, and continued professional development.

Program Competencies

The program prepares graduates to demonstrate competence in the following curricular areas:

  1. The application of circuit analysis and design, computer programming, associated software, analog and digital electronics, microcomputers, automation controls, power systems, and engineering standards to the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical/electronic(s) systems.
  2. The application of natural sciences and mathematics at or above the level of algebra and trigonometry to the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems.
  3. The ability to analyze, design, and implement one or more of the following: control systems, instrumentation systems, communications systems, computer systems, or power systems.
  4. The ability to apply project management techniques to electrical/electronic(s) systems.
  5. The ability to utilize differential and integral calculus, as a minimum, to characterize the performance of electrical/electronic systems.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge, techniques, skills, mathematics, science, engineering principles, and modern engineering technology tools to solve broadly defined engineering problems.
  2. Design systems, components, or processes that meet specified requirements for broadly defined engineering technology problems.
  3. Communicate effectively using written, oral, and graphical methods in technical and nontechnical environments while identifying and applying appropriate technical literature.
  4. Conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments, and analyze and interpret data to improve systems and processes.
  5. Function effectively as both a member and a leader of multidisciplinary technical teams.

Admission and Degree Requirements

Admission:

  • Submit a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology application.
  • Meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Hold a conferred Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Complete at least 60 transferable college-level credits from a regionally accredited institution, including a minimum of 15 credits of General Education coursework.
  • Complete General Education, technical, and prerequisite coursework with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Successfully complete ENC1101 and MAC1105, or higher-level equivalents, with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Applicants with a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.49 may be considered for conditional admission with approval of the Department Chair.
  • Submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. International transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Completion:

  • Take and successfully complete:
  • Complete senior design courses, ETI4448 and ETG4950C, at Daytona State College.
  • Complete 48 credits of approved upper-division technical coursework, 44 credits of approved lower-division technical coursework, and 36 credits of General Education for a minimum of 128 total credits.
  • Demonstrate foreign language competency by completing two years of the same foreign language in high school or two semesters of the same college-level foreign language.
  • Satisfy the College-Level Communication and Computational Skills and Civic Literacy Competency requirements.
  • Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite coursework.
