Probation and Dismissal

A law student will be considered to have unsatisfactory academic standing if the cumulative grade point average falls below the following minimum requirements for good standing.

Students below 2.00 who are granted reinstatement through academic standards hearing.

Academic Probation

Any student who has a G.P.A. below 2.00 and is not subject to immediate academic dismissal as described above, will be placed on academic probation.

Academic Dismissal

Students who fall below the dismissal G.P.A. criteria for their credit hours graded will be dismissed for academic deficiency. Students will be notified via Wilmington University email after the grade deadline for the term.

  • First semester 1L students are dismissed for academic deficiency if they have a grade point average (G.P.A.) below 1.50.
  • Second semester 1L students will be evaluated based on the credit hours they have completed after two semesters.
    • Part time 1L students, those who enrolled one or both semesters of the first-year part time, are dismissed for academic deficiency if they have a grade point average (G.P.A.) below 1.75.
    • Full time 1L students, who have completed the first-year curriculum of 29 credits, are dismissed if their grade point average (G.P.A.) is below 2.00.
  • In subsequent semesters, students with a grade point average (G.P.A.) below 2.00 are dismissed for academic deficiency.
  • Transfer students with a grade point average (G.P.A.) below 2.00 after any semester following enrollment are dismissed for academic deficiency.
