Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance (either Vocal or Instrumental) degree program is designed for students who wish to achieve a high level of proficiency in performance, with a primary focus on the classical tradition. Prospective students for this degree program must be able to read notated music and demonstrate strong technical proficiency in their instrument or in voice at the time of audition. Degree candidates receive thorough instruction in music theory and history and take courses in a variety of other disciplines to achieve the breadth of learning that characterizes a liberal arts degree. Candidates demonstrate their achievement in performance at the end of their degree by performing a public recital.

Admissions

Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree program is a two-fold process.

Requirements: 

  1. Admission to the University of the Incarnate Word.

  2. Admission, through audition, to the Department of Music.

Students who, at the time of their entrance audition, are deemed unprepared for freshman-level MUAP lessons or MUSI courses may be placed in one or more of the following courses: MUAP 1144, MUSI 1311, MUSI 1381, MUSI 1100, MUSI 1300. These courses are prerequisites to the pursuit of a music degree at UIW and are not counted as part of the degree or as free electives.

Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance Degree Plan

A minimum of 120 credit hours is needed to complete the Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance, in either the Instrumental track or the Vocal track.
