PUNJ 1 First-Year Punjabi 1

First course of a three-quarter sequence designed to introduce students to modern Punjabi as spoken in India, Pakistan, and the global Punjabi diaspora. Course materials have been created primarily in Gurmukhi script. Course is taught online utilizing Zoom classes, interactive online activities in Canvas, recorded captivate lessons, and a mobile app companion. Students master Gurmukhi script and phonology and are expected to develop basic proficiency in Punjabi. Course is organized by modules on core themes about Punjabi life and culture. Students gain greater ease at listening, reading, writing, and talking in Punjabi. Punjabi is spoken most of the time in class. This course emphasizes developing basic communication skills using everyday vocabulary and grammatical structures in Punjabi.
