This course will focus on case studies in applied ethics. Our case studies for 2025 include: Should schools ban cell phones? Should Elon Musk’s medical device company, Neuralink, use animals in testing its products? Should cops be allowed to use fragments of our DNA to solve crimes, even when they don’t have a warrant? Students will debate these cases in class, and each student will develop a research project based on the case. Our approach will be interdisciplinary, meaning students will explore both empirical and theoretical issues. Open only to first year frosh.
