2017-2018
AN OPTION OF LIBERAL ARTS
Type: Transfer, Degree (AA)
Open Admissions
Division: Stem And Education
This program is designed to provide a basic understanding of the principles of biotechnology, preparing the students for employment in entry-level positions in the industry. The program has been developed with the assistance and guidance of biotechnology firms throughout the area to assure that students acquire skills that can be applied in a wide variety of biotechnology industries, from manufacturing to research.
In addition, students receive hands-on training by carrying out specific and extensive biotechnological applications in the laboratory. The program is enhanced by combining the scientific aspects of biotechnology with a strong liberal arts foundation, thus providing transfer credits to four-year programs.
The following background is recommended for this program: algebra and biology. Students without this background may need to take prerequisite course work prior to enrolling in some of the courses required in this program. It is highly recommended that students meet with the program coordinator on a semester basis to review the program, and discuss course selections for successful completion of the program requirements.
