NUR.5030 Ethical Principles in Healthcare
This course provides an opportunity for students to assess ethical and legal issues confronting nurses and other healthcare providers in a variety of healthcare delivery settings. Each module is an opportunity to identify and analyze legal and ethical concepts plus the principles underlying nursing and healthcare. This course examines theories and values applied in ethical decision-making that are related to a variety of ethical dilemmas in nursing practice and healthcare. This course promotes a review of regulations under which professional nurses practice and highlights the impression that ethical and legal issues are often not mutually exclusive. (This is an 8-week course. In addition to the three hours of online classroom activities, students should expect to spend at the minimum 6 hours of homework preparation through weekly in course discussions, peer interaction, blogs, readings, papers, PowerPoints and the review of weekly narrations. Each discussion positing and/or blog update is equivalent to ½ hour of classroom activity according to Carnegie unit calculations.)
