EDAD.5225 Higher Education Administration

This course introduces students to organizational culture and leadership in higher education, including administrative and business practices of institutions of higher education in the United States. Students will understand the complexity of colleges and universities as organizations and ecosystems which is requisite knowledge for thoughtful leaders and scholars of postsecondary education. Theoretical and conceptual frameworks discussed in this class will aide students in their observation of organizational behaviors that intertwine with various institutional contexts, external factors, norms, and cultures, as well as, different actors involved. The course will also examine why decisions are made, and by whom; what challenges confront institutions and organization; core governance structures and processes of postsecondary education institutions, as well as classical and contemporary theories on organizational governance. The course further delves into topics such as institutional planning, space management, budgeting, human resource administration, purchasing, and organizational management.
