TRIO Student Support Services

Laredo College has successfully carried out Student Support Services (SSS) since 1973. Student Support Services is funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. While student financial aid programs help students overcome financial barriers to higher education, TRIO programs such as SSS help students overcome socioeconomic, academic, and cultural barriers to higher education. Although SSS has evolved over the years, the goals of SSS continue to be the same today at Laredo College.

The goals of Student Support Services are to increase: (1) good academic standing, (2) persistence, (3) graduation, and (4) the number of transfer students going to four-year universities.

TRIO SSS is dedicated to increasing the retention and graduation rates for low-income, first-generation, and/or students with documented disabilities. Services include, but are not limited to Peer Tutoring, Professional Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction and On-line tutoring. Other services available are Academic Advising, Financial Aid Guidance, Study Skills and financial literacy workshops.

Students must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. Not eligible are holders of student visas (F1, F2, J1, and J-2 Visas). Students are eligible to participate in Student Support Services if they are currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Laredo College. Students must be low-income, first-generation, and/or individuals with disabilities. Students must also demonstrate a need for academic support.
