Fieldwork requirements:
All students must be certified by a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)-approved organization in Personal Training or Strength & Conditioning prior to Senior fieldwork placement. The B.S. PE: Exercise Science program offers the National Council on Strength & Fitness (NCSF) Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength Coach courses as part of the undergraduate major coursework.
Program Description:
Exercise science is a field of study committed to understanding the acute and chronic physiological responses to sport, exercise, and physical activity. Exercise science professionals work as an integral part of a wellness team in corporate, clinical, community, and commercial fitness and wellness centers evaluating health behaviors and risk factors, conducting fitness assessments, writing appropriate exercise prescriptions, and motivating individuals to modify negative health habits and maintain positive lifestyle behaviors (CAAHEP.org). Careers include fitness instructor, strength and conditioning coach, clinical exercise specialists, exercise physiologist, wellness coordinator, and many others.
