Advising for the Marketing Major
Student Emphasis Areas
Sales Emphasis: Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in sales must take MKT 4180 and MKT 4190 as two of their four electives. Marketing Majors cannot minor in Professional Sales. These students are also strongly advised to complete their internship in the area of professional sales.
Supply Chain Emphasis: Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in Supply Chain Management must take MKT 4300, SCM 4310, and SCM 4320. Marketing majors cannot minor in Supply Chain Management.
Marketing Analytics and Digital Marketing Emphasis: Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in Digital Marketing must take MKT 4250, MGT 4260 and MKT 4730 Special Topics - Marketing Data Analysis or another MKT Elective.
Study Abroad Requirements
Study abroad students may transfer two marketing electives to the major provided they have taken MKT 3110 prior to the study abroad trip.
Marketing classes applied to other Majors or Minors
MKT 3110: Students with a Marketing major and a Sport and Event Management minor may apply MKT 3110 as a substitution for SPT 3510 in the SEM minor.
MKT 4120 may not apply to both the Marketing and Entrepreneurship double majors.
MKT 4160 may not apply to both Marketing and International Business double majors.
For students double majoring in two BSBA majors, a course that is eligible to count for two majors can only count towards one. For example, MKT 4160 can count towards the MKT major and the IB major. If a student is double majoring in MKT and IB and takes MKT 4160, this course can count toward the MKT or IB major, but not both. However, we do allow a student to double count a course in BSBA major and a minor. For example, a student majoring in MKT and minoring in ENT can have MKT 4120 count for both the major and the minor.
