Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology, Technical Certificate of Credit

Overview

Offered at the Augusta campus

Entrance Dates: Fall
Length of Program: Three Terms
Credit Hours Required for Graduation: 17

Program Description: The Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology certificate consists of occupational courses within the instrumentation and control specialization of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program. This TCC contains advanced courses in electromechanical devices, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers as well as process control. and benefits students who pursue more than one specialization in the ECET program. The TCC is also intended to encourage graduates of the ECET program to return to school to pursue additional specializations and expand their skill-set.  Courses in the TCC emphasize skills for employment as an instrumentation/process control technician to support tasks in industrial automation, calibration of manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices and overall plant maintenance.

Employment Opportunities: An instrument and control (I & C) technician maintains, installs, and troubleshoots instrumentation, control circuits, and equipment. They also work alongside engineers on basic process design. They are responsible for performing general maintenance on equipment, adjusting system components and replacing defective parts. Most engineering technicians work closely with engineers & scientists in highly technical environments such as manufacturing plants, federal agencies, utilities, labs, construction sites, or research and development facilities. Postsecondary education is essential in the field of engineering technology, and there is an acute need for I & C technicians in the local area.
