Social Media Specialist, Technical Certificate of Credit

Program Description: The Social Media Specialist certificate prepares graduates to create and administer content on all social media platform to build an audience and ensure customer engagement. The specialist may also monitor site metrics, respond to reader comments, and oversee creative design.

Employment Opportunities: Those students who graduate with the SociaMedia Specialist certificate may be employed in positions in office settings including educational institutions, federal, state, and locagovernment offices, and small and large businesses. Social media specialists communicate with the public through platforms that allow users to create and share content online. They run their employers' social media accounts, working to build a brand's reputation. These workers post content-such as images, text, or videos-to spark interest in a topic that relates to the brand as a whole. In addition, sociamedia specialists follow conversations and interact with the public online. These workers sometimes collaborate with others to promote their employer's cause. To track the effectiveness of their communication strategies, sociamedia specialists set goals and then measure success against those goals. Grouped with public relations specialists, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Standards indicated that employment of public relations specialists is projected to grow 7 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. The need for organizations to maintain their public image will continue to drive employment growth. Candidates can expect strong competition for jobs at advertising and public relations firms and organizations with large media exposure.
