PSY 481 Domestic Violence
Statistics indicate that family violence is a serious pervasive problem in our society that affects increasingly larger numbers of individuals each year. This course provides an in-depth examination of domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV), including its causes, patterns, and consequences. Students will explore the social, psychological, and legal aspects of domestic and intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other forms of family violence. In this course, students will also analyze the impact of DV/IPV on survivors, families, and communities, as well as the role of social services, law enforcement, and policy in addressing and preventing abuse. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of intervention strategies, including trauma-informed care and advocacy for survivors.
