ART 170 Playgrounds: Forms of Gathering and Playing

Confronted with significant global challenges, artists and a diverse array of world-makers have embraced forms of playing to reimagine and confront brutal realities, and engage in struggles for liberation. In this course, art and pedagogy are grounded in the concept and practice of playgrounds. This course invites students to design or assemble objects to transform spatial and sensory perceptions, exploring sociability, forms of gathering, playing and reconnection with the environment. Sculptures, objects, drawings and furniture require human interaction to reach their full potential.
