General Studies, Associate of Arts

The Associate of Arts degree in General Studies is a 60-credit, two-year degree which consists of program requirements, general education requirements, and electives. It is a balanced curriculum that forms a good basis for a wide range of baccalaureate programs and careers.

General Studies AA - Degree Requirements

60 credits

Program Requirements (27 cr):

  • Art/Literature/Language Electives (9 cr)
  • Social Responsibility and Civic Engagement Electives (beyond Gen Ed Intellect & Inquiry Series requirement) (6 cr)
  • EN 326: British Lit I or EN 347: American Lit I (3 cr)
  • EN 329: British Lit II or EN 350: American Lit II (3 cr)
  • HS 213: History of US I or HS 253: World Civilization I (3 cr)
  • HS 223: History of US II or HS 263: World Civilization II (3 cr)

General Education Requirements (24–27 cr):

Foundational Series—13–16 credits
  • Communication Skills (9 cr)
    • EN 113/EN 114 College Composition I (3 cr)
    • EN 133: College Composition II (3 cr)
    • CT 233: Communication Skills I: Interpersonal Communication (3 cr)
  • Science and Quantitative Reasoning (4–7 cr)
    • Natural Science Lecture + Laboratory (4 cr)
    • Minimum competency on ACT/SAT for placement into MA 153 or MA 243 OR completion of intermediate algebra course (if course necessary, 3 cr)
