Transient Student Requests

PHSC as the home institution:

PHSC students may be enrolled at another postsecondary institution concurrent with their PHSC enrollment by securing permission in advance from the Host Institution (PHSC is the Home institution). For private and/or our-of-state requests, the student must meet with their academic advisor for approval. A paper Transient Student Request Form (SAR 48) is completed and sent to the appropriate Dean/Provost for approval. If the student is attending a public school, the transient application is submitted through the Florida Shines website via www.floridashines.org.

This procedure is necessary to ensure the acceptance of credits taken at other institutions Essentially, PHSC remains your "home institutions" while you visit another school for a few credits. The transient student approval process via Florida Shines is designed to ensure the credits completed at other institutions will apply toward a program at PHSC. The electronic process includes multiple levels of approval including a review by financial aid staff to ensure credits eligible for financial aid support are recognized. When taking courses as a visitor at another institution, a student will need to follow the academic calendar, drop/add registration dates and academic rules at that institutions for the duration of the course. Approval for students seeking to enroll in upper level courses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will require the approval of the appropriate dean.

PHSC as the visiting institution:

Students from other colleges may, similarly, register for a few classes at PHSC (with PHSC serving as the Host institution) which never officially separating from their program of study at their home school. To apply for transient status at PHSC, students will submit the Transient Student Request Application form via www.floridashines.org website, if the host institution is a Florida public college. A paper application is required if the school is private or out-of-state. Approval for students seeking to enroll in upper level courses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will require the approval of the appropriate academic dean.
