Admission to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Nursing-Bachelor of Science

Completed applications, including all admission requirements, must be received by the Admissions and Student Records office within the following time frame:

August admission: April 3 through 7:30 p.m. on July 24

January admission: July 31 through 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31

Note:  If the application deadline falls on a day the College is closed, the application will be accepted on the next day the college is open for business.

Note:  Applicants who do not respond to an offer of admission or fail to enroll for the term for which admission is offered must reapply to the program.

Application and Admission Requirements

  1. Completed PHSC application with application fee (common application filed online with $25 fee)
  2. Completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program application and application fee  (This is referring to a second application and fee specific to the BSN program. It includes additional documents required and is submitted as one package for review. The checklist will identify any prerequisite courses required prior to admission.)
  3. Official high school transcript or GED scores indicating receipt of a high school equivalency diploma, if required for documentation of foreign language requirement (completion of two consecutive years of one foreign language). The foreign language requirement must be met prior to the completion of the bachelor's degree. This requirement can be met by any of the following:
    1. Completion of two years of high school instruction in the same foreign language
    2. Completion of two sequential college-level courses in one foreign language
    3. Achievement of minimum scores on a foreign language proficiency exam approved by the Admissions and Student Records office
    4. Completion of a high school diploma from a foreign country where the student studied in a language other than English
  4. Official transcripts from each United States college and university attended other than PHSC
  5. Official transcripts showing an Associate in Science degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution or a diploma in nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
  6. Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  7. Copy of a current, unrestricted, unencumbered registered nurse license from the state in which the applicant is practicing, to be kept current throughout the duration of the program

Non-Nursing Course Requirements

Please refer to the program curriculum for a complete listing of all course requirements for this program. All students must meet General Education Requirements and any prerequisite courses needed for the upper-level courses which were not part of their lower-level degree.

General Education Requirements (36 credits)

Students who have completed an Associate in Arts (AA) degree at a public Florida college will have met the General Education Requirements. Students who have completed an AA degree at an institution outside of Florida, or those who have earned an Associate in Science (AS) degree or diploma in nursing, but have General Education courses that may vary from the requirements below, should consult with an advisor to determine if acceptable substitutions may satisfy some or all of Pasco-Hernando State College's General Education Requirements. Students with a diploma in nursing may need to take additional General Education courses.

Area I: Communications (9 credit hours)

Area II: Mathematics (6 credit hours)

  • Any Area II college-level math course
  • STA 2023 - Introduction to Statistics (required)

Area III: Natural Sciences (6 credit hours)

  • BSC 1085 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I and BSC 1085L - Human Anatomy and Physiology I Laboratory 
  • BSC 1086 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II and BSC 1086L - Human Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory 

Area IV: Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credit hours)

  •  PSY 1012 - Introduction to Psychology (required)
  • Any 3 credit hour course in Area IV

Area V: Humanities (6 credit hours)

  • PHI 1630 - Applied Ethics 
  • Any 3 credit hour course in Area V

Area VI: Information Literacy and Technology Fluency (3 credit hours)

  • CGS 1100 - Microcomputer Applications 

Technical Courses from AS Nursing Degree (42 credits)-Students will also need the following additional courses if not previously taken:

The RN to BSN program is entirely online and requires access to a reliable computer and Internet connection. Students are expected to have intermediate to advanced computer competence upon admission.

Transfer

Students who have started nursing classes in an RN to BSN program at another institution may be able to transfer to the Pasco-Hernando State College program. The student must apply to PHSC and request official transcripts as noted above. Transcripts will be reviewed on a course-by-course basis to determine equivalency to Pasco-Hernando State College courses. In order to receive the baccalaureate degree from Pasco-Hernando State College students must complete at least 25% (30 credits) of the RN to BSN program at PHSC and at least 25% (11 credits) of the upper-division courses required for the program at Pasco-Hernando State College, including the capstone course, NUR 4945 - Nursing Capstone Experience.
