Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology

Curriculum Overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology includes coursework in physics, exposure, anatomy, radiographic procedures and fundamentals of image analysis and pathology. Students will learn the biologic effects of radiation on the body as well as patient care techniques such as patient transfers, vital signs and how to respond to medical emergencies. Northwestern Health Science University Radiologic Technology program includes four trimesters of didactic coursework and lab sessions as well as two trimesters of supervised clinical education that assist students to build skills working with a variety of patients and equipment under the supervision of registered radiographers in an actual healthcare setting.  Students develop comprehensive technical skills to perform imaging examinations and diagnostics, and also learn to position patients, protecting them from overexposure to harmful radiation, while making them as comfortable as possible. This hands-on program uses ionizing radiation to provide images of tissues, organs and bones in the body.

There are no pre-requisites necessary prior to the start of the program but students will take some co-requisites in the first term to prepare for core curriculum.

Graduation Requirements

The A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology degree is granted to those candidates who have:

1. Successfully completed all requirements in the program of study;
2. Successfully completed the required 73 total credits;
3. Successfully completed all program-specific coursework with a grade of “C” or better;
4. Successfully completed all General Education coursework;
5. Successfully documented attendance and completion of all required Clinical Training hours;
6. Successfully completed all required clinical competencies with a grade of “C” or better;
7. Successfully completed of monthly clinical performance evaluations with a grade of “C” or better;
8. Successfully completed all other assigned tasks by both faculty and the clinical coordinators;
9. The completion of an exit interview with the clinical coordinator. Exit interview may also be completed by the career service advisor if need be; includes job search strategies and interviewing skills.
