Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology

 

Curriculum Overview

The A.S. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology includes 35.5 credits of General Education and science pre-requisite courses, and 39.5 credits of program-specific Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) courses. Program-specific MLT courses cover all major laboratory areas including urinalysis, phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, and microbiology. The curriculum concludes with a formal comprehensive review course as well as a 15-week clinical training experience to prepare graduates for future employment as well as success on the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of certification examination.



Graduation Requirements

Candidates for the Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University must meet the following graduation requirements:

  1. Satisfactory completion of all requirements in the program of study;
  2. Completion of the required 76 total credits;
  3. Completion of all General Education courses with a grade of C- or better;
  4. Satisfactory completion of all courses according to the program requirements;
  5. Successful completion of all clinical competencies.

Conferral of the Associate of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology is not dependent upon completion of any external exams or certification. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible (but not required) to sit for national certification exams such as the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam.
