PHL 2055 Contemporary Philosophy

This course covers the progression and development of philosophy in the Western world in the 20th century. Just as the world rapidly underwent radical change historically, philosophy as a discipline grew and developed in response. We will be exploring selections from major philosophers thematically: Philosophy of Language; Politics and Ethics; Existentialism and Phenomenology; and Gender, Sexuality, and Race. We will culminate the course with readings from contemporary academic philosophers reflecting on the state of the nature in the 21st century.
