Philosophy Major Requirements
A student majoring in Philosophy must successfully complete, with a grade of C or better, a minimum of eleven courses.
I. Three required introductory courses
Students may take any of these courses and in any order, but it is recommended that they take the Metaphysics, Theory of Knowledge, Foundations, or Human Values before they take Ethics
II. Two required history courses
III. One required Topical Seminar such as
IV. Five electives (all but one must be above the 1000 level)
Any Philosophy course not taken to satisfy a requirement for the major may count as an elective.
Students may choose to take 1-2 of the five electives from the following list of courses from outside the department, or other appropriate courses with prior approval of the Chair of the Philosophy Department.
An independent study in Philosophy may only be completed after a student has successfully completed 4 other Philosophy courses.
